PM sets up committee to make NACTA more effective

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday constituted a committee to review the role and performance of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA).

The prime minister chaired the first-ever meeting of the Board of Governors of NACTA here today.

He stressed the need for revisiting the role of NACTA to make it more effective and proactive organization in view of challenges facing the country.

The meeting was attended by Ministers for Defence, Finance, Law, chief ministers of all the four provinces and Gilgit Baltistan, Prime Minister AJK, Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) director general, NACTA coordinator, chief secretaries and others.

The meeting reviewed the progress on the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP).

The NACTA coordinator gave a detailed briefing on the mandate and role of the organization since its establishment as a premier body for policy formulation and implementation of strategies aimed at countering terrorism and extremism in the country.

The prime minister said Pakistan has come a long way in its fight against terrorism and extremism, rendering the highest sacrifices of civilians and security personnel.

He said improved law and order today was the result of joint efforts of armed forces, police, and intelligence agencies.

Not a single meeting of the Board of Governors of NACTA was convened since its establishment, the premier lamented.
