Asma Jahangir-led Independent Group wins SCBA annual elections

LAHORE: The Independent Group led by Asma Jahangir clinched on Tuesday top slots in the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) annual elections.

The group managed to secure the seats of the president as well as secretary of the association.

The group’s candidate Pir Kaleem Khursheed bagged 1,145 votes, defeating Hafiz Abdur Rehman of Hamid Khan’s Professional Group who could secure only 1,062 votes.

Similarly, Safdar Hussain Tarar of the group achieved 1,098 votes against 638 votes of Professional Group’s Mian Muhammad Aslam.

A very close contest was observed between the presidential candidates as the winning candidate marked victory with a narrow margin of only 83 votes.

On the slot of vice-president from Punjab, Qamar Zaman Qureshi became successful, securing 1,159 while his rival Malik Imtiaz got 886 votes.
