Pakistan achieved success in operations against militants, says Raza Rabbani

Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani said on Saturday that Pakistan has achieved success in operations against terrorists’ networks in the region.

“We have achieved success in operations carried out by Pakistan Army and Airforce against terrorists’ elements,” Rabbani said while addressing the media in Karachi.

“But it’s not like an on-and-off switch which can eradicate the non-state actors completely in one-off operation,” he added.

US policy and Indian hegemony unacceptable, says Rabbani

The Senate chairman further went on to say that there was no conflict between the civilian and military leadership on this matter.

“It takes time to finish off such non-state actors completely and the country has achieved success in this regard. But a pressure has to be maintained against the militants,” Rabbani said.

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader also crticised the establishment and said it was trying to snatch the rights which were provided to the people in the wake of 18th Amendment in the Constitution.

“For three years now, no NFC Award has been granted to the provinces. There seems no hope of change in future either,” he said.

Speaking in the Senate a day earlier, Rabbani had said that an inconclusive debate on distribution of power among state institutions would be an exercise in futility.

He said that parliament should suggest a way forward to ensure all institutions worked within their domains prescribed in the Constitution.

“We must arrive at conclusion. Parliament must suggest a way forward otherwise this whole exercise will be futile,” he said, adding that the Senate would make some solid suggestions in this regard.
