Woman awarded 14-year imprisonment in acid attack case

MULTAN  : An anti-terrorism special court has handed down 14-year imprisonment to a woman who had attacked a veterinary doctor with acid about over a year ago.

According to the police, Iffat Bibi, 30, threw acid on Mazhar Hashmi, after he turned down a marriage proposal.

Hashmi was using his cellphone outside his house in Bangla Sheikhan, when Iffat threw acid on him as a result of which Hashmi received severe burn injuries.

A case against Iffat over the charges of throwing acid was registered at Zahir Pee Police station on July 6, 2016.

Judge of anti-terrorism special court Bahawalpur, Malik Bashir Ahmad, ordered 14-year imprisonment and one million rupees fine.  Iffat will be imprisoned for six months if she fails to pay the imposed fine, the verdict says.
