Founder of Pakistan Parkinson Society, Haroon Rasheed, laid to rest in Karachi

Pakistan Parkinson’s Society (PPS)’s founder and Chairman, Mr. Haroon Basheer, passed away in Karachi yesterday. Mr. Basheer was marketing and banking professional with over three decades of experience and held senior management and CEO positions in institutions like American Express TRS, Citibank CSG.

Mr. Basheer established PPS to achieve public awareness of the disease with the objective of providing the best possible quality of life for those with Parkinson’s, their families and their care givers, by: acting as a knowledge resource for PD patients and care givers by providing information and access to best practices around the world.

Mr. Basheer said in his interview earlier last year, “It has given me a chance to absorb the worst and not allow myself to be a victim of my illness. It has taught me that even though there is a fighter inside me it’s all right sometimes to be less self-sufficient to appreciate friends help for something as small as buttoning a shirt cuff.”

The funeral services of Mr. Basheer were performed at Sultan Mosque in Karachi on Friday, 26th January 2018.

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive movement disorder which usually develops after the age of 60. The overall prevalence of PD in the world is estimated to be approximately 6.5 million.

The PPS is a non-religious, non-political and not for profit organization registered under the Societies Act of 1860.
