ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, The Supreme Court urged the Punjab government from further extending the tenure of Chairman Sheikh Zahid Hospital Farid Khan.
The three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, directed the Punjab government to give charge to a senior staff member of the hospital.
The bench, stating that there were countless complaints against Khan, questioned why the Punjab government has botched to find a qualified person for the post of chairman.
Recently, on Monday, the CJP had taken notice of Khan’s illegal appointment as chairman of Lahore’s Sheikh Zayed Hospital.
The application by Dr. Muzammil Tahir, General Secretary of the Medical Teachers Association, and Dr. Nasir Din, General Secretary of Allied Health Organization which intrigued the CJP stated that the incumbent chairman was appointed on the recommendation of a politically titled search committee in violation of the policy of Federation and Province.
Khan, however, was a junior professor in the provincial government but was given BS-22 post in a federal organization, and was appointed as chairman, refuting all routine legal requirements, as per the application.
Furthermore, the application added that partiality and politically motivated policies of Khan obstructed the “smooth working of Sheikh Zayed Hospital.”
Khan’s tenure as chairman was from April 10, 2015 to April 9, 2018. Apparently, his tenure was up for extension and has now been ceased by the apex court.
