ECP takes notice of ballot papers found dumped in landfill

KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken a notice of an incident in Karachi where stamped ballot papers were found dumped in a trash heap.

ECP has sought a report from provincial election commissioner, district returning officer and returning officer in this regard, and assured to take stern actions against those who are responsible.

On the other hand, spokesman of ECP said that the security forces will remain deployed in the country until final results of general election are drafted and electoral material is transported back the to Strong room. The transfer of logistics is expected to be completed by tomorrow, according to the ECP official.

On the day of polling – July 25 – the troops were deployed to provide mandated assistance to Election Commission of Pakistan for the conduct of polls, as per the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The media wing of armed forces further apprised that coordination with other law enforcement agencies (LEAs) and local administration is in hand for ensuring safe and secure environment during the polls.

The logistical arrangements for polling booths were being carried out under the supervision of deployed troops.

Around 800,000 law enforcement and army personnel were in command for ensuring security on election day.

The General Election 2018 was held in Pakistan on July 25 amid tight security arrangements.
