Trump claims to be willing to meet with the Iranian Rouhani

The US president declared that he would attend that meeting “at the time they want” the Iranians and “without preconditions.”

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, assured this Monday (30.07.2018) that he would be willing to meet with his Iranian counterpart, Hasan Rohaní, “without preconditions”, because, he argued, “there is nothing wrong with meeting” .

During a joint press conference with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, visiting Washington, Trump responded to the question asked by the press about a possible contact with the Iranian leader after the increase in tensions between the two countries in recent weeks. .

“Without preconditions, if you want to meet, I will meet,” the president said, saying that such contacts are good for the United States, as it was with the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-Un. “I would certainly meet with Iran if they wanted to meet, I do not know if they are ready yet, now they are having difficulties,” the president said.

Iran and the United States raised the tone of their threats as the date of the entry into force of the US sanctions against Tehran, which are expected in early August, approaches.

“Never again threaten the United States or suffer consequences that few have suffered in history before,” he wrote in capital letters Trump on his Twitter account a few days ago to his Iranian counterpart. “We are no longer a country that will put up with its insane words of violence and death, be cautious!” Added the US president, who, even before taking office, showed a hostile attitude towards Iran.

Dispute over the nuclear agreement

His policy against the Ayatollah regime led him to withdraw the US last May. of the 2015 multilateral nuclear agreement with Iran and to re-impose sanctions on Tehran. These sanctions, divided by sectors of activity in two batches, enter into force in August and next November, and threaten to sink the already battered Iranian economy.

However, the rest of the signatories of the 2015 pact (Russia, China, United Kingdom, France and Germany) are trying to save the nuclear pact, whose future depends in large part on guaranteeing the sale of Iranian oil. For its part, Iran is negotiating with European countries, as well as with China and India, its main oil buyers, whose daily exports reached 2.8 million barrels of crude oil and condensate last month.

The starting signal for this verbal confrontation was given by Rohaní, when a little over a week ago he warned the US. that starting a conflict with Iran would mean “the mother of all wars”.
