US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday (18.07.2018) that during his summit last Monday in Helsinki with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, he told him he could not “accept” that Moscow would continue to interfere in the American political system.
In an interview with CBS News, Trump also said that he considers Putin responsible for the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, “because he is in charge of the country.” “I was very firm in saying that we can not have interference, we can not have any of this,” Trump said in the interview, which will be broadcast this afternoon and from which the network put forward an extract.
“I let him know that we can not accept this, that we will not accept it, and that this is the way things will be,” he added. Trump gave this interview shortly after affirming, in a meeting with his Cabinet, that “no American president” has been “harder with Russia” than he, and that “Putin knows that better than anyone.”
