Day of meeting with convicted Sharifs at Adiala Jail

RAWALPINID: Convicted members of Sharif family in Avenfield case, Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Capt. (Retd) Safdar, will meet their family members, PML-N leaders and legal team on Thursday (today) inside Adiala prison.

Mayors of Punjab and senior PML-N leaders are also expected to meet former premier Nawaz Shairf. On account of meet up day with high profile convicts at Adiala jail, the security has been tightened with heavy contingent of police deployed around the premises.

Previously, couple of meetings had taken place between the convicts and their associates.

Two days earlier, Nawaz Sharif was moved back to Adiala jail from Pakistan Institute of Medical Science (PIMS) after falling sick inside prison on Sunday, reportedly, due to non-compliance with doctor’s advice.

He was brought to cardiology ward of the hospital amid tight security and the ward was declared a sub-jail. Nawaz stayed at the hospital until his medical reports showed his recovery to health.

An accountability court, in Avenfield corruption reference, awarded 10 years prison term to the PML-N supreme leader, while his daughter Maryam and her spouse Capt. Safdar were handed seven years’ and one year’s prison term, respectively.

Judge Muhammad Bashir ordered forfeiture of their properties in the Avenfield Apartments and Park Lane of London. He imposed a fine of £8 million (approximately Rs1,292m) on the former premier and £2 million (approximately Rs323m) on his daughter.

Besides, three convicts were awarded an additional one-year imprisonment, which will run concurrently for not cooperating with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
