Sidhu says he will ask Indian govt to take one step for peace

Navjot Singh Sindu

ISLAMABAD: Former Indian cricket star Navjot Singh Sindu on Saturday said he is returning home with 100 times more love than he brought to Pakistan.

“Punjab means amalgamation of five rivers. Pakistan and India have two rivers each  while the one is shared by them,” he said and added, “If India and Pakistan’s Punjab open their borders, it would change a lot within six months.”

Mr Sidhu was speaking to media alongside PTI senator Faisal Javed and Pakistan cricket stars in the federal capital.

He said he would ask the Indian government to take one step [towards normalising ties]  while Prime Minister Imran Khan will take two.

He talked about his meeting with Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Jawed Bajwa today at the PM’s oath-taking ceremony at the Presidency, saying the army chief told him that the frontier with India will be opened on the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism.

He appreciated the army chief for lending his support to peace overtures between the two countries.

Mr Sidhu said it was his desire to see improved ties between the two neighbours. ” I came to Pakistan as friend and got a very positive message.”

“I am returning home with memories which I will never forget,” he told reporters.

Mr Javed, former cricket star Rameez Raja and others also spoke on the occasion.
