KARACHI: On Monday Sindh Local Government minister Saeed Ghani vowed to take radical measures to address the waning water crisis in Karachi.
Addressing media post-meeting presided by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, the provincial minister said it was their aim to provide water to every part of Karachi.
He said that there will be an impartial distribution of water resources, and those areas where water is provided in profusion will have to compromise for those who are less fortunate.
The local government minister also pledged to reform the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) and said that the board’s authorities have been assured full cooperation to resolve problems.
He strongly cautioned employees saying that those who don’t perform their duties but withdraw salaries won’t be tolerated and will most definitely be dismissed. “Whosoever does not work but receives salaries should either leave his job or will be fired,” he presaged.
Moreover, he maintained that the board cannot function if employees do not perform their duties assiduously. He said that he has requested the chief minister to review measures to generate more revenue.
The minister said the K-Electric was charging industrial rates from the water board. He urged the electricity body that the water board would pay their dues but the rates should be reduced as it was not a business or commercial activity.
