Anwar Majeed, son, Hussain Lawai to be shifted to jail from hospital: SC

Supreme Court Tatheer Fatima

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday ordered to move Omni Group head  Anwar Majeed and others to the prison from hospital after reviewing their medical reports declaring all the accused medically fit.

On September 14,  Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) requested the Supreme Court to constitute a medial board for the examination of high profile personalities accused in a money laundering scam. The court had then formed a committee under the surgeon general of Pakistan for the medical examination of Anwar Majeed, his son Abdul Ghani and Hussain Lawai.

As Justice Nisar heard the money laundering case today, the additional attorney general submitted the medical reports of three accused before the bench. After going through the report, the apex court directed to move Anwar Majeed, Abdul Ghani and Hussain Lawai to the prison from the hospital where they were staying on the pretext of unwell health condition to avoid court’s proceedings.

The Chief Justice remarked, “Majeed’s counsel should inform us, if his client wants to get his surgery done. If Anwar Majeed wants to get his surgery done then he should otherwise be shifted to jail.”

“Tell us, whether he wants to stay in the hospital or jail?” the chief justice questioned. “Hemorrhoids can be treated with a cream, it is not like Anwar Majeed has a heart ailment.”

The top judge further lashed out “Is he an official guest? Shift him to the jail, he has been enjoying for over a month.”

Justice Nisar then stated, “As per the report, Anwar Majeed is in good health.”
