NEW YORK: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said Pakistan has always supported efforts for restoration of peace the world over.

Addressing a meeting on “Action for Peacekeeping” at the United Nations, he said the nature of global controversies is changing with the march of time, adding that there are numerous challenges in restoration of peace.

The foreign minister said Pakistan has provided more personnel for the UN peacekeeping missions than any other country and that it has been taking part in peace efforts since the 60s.

He said 200,000 Pakistan army personnel have served under these missions all over the world and 156 have rendered sacrifices.

Separately, while speaking to an Indian media outlet, the minister said Pakistan desired peace and improved bilateral ties with the neighboring country.

He said Islamabad desired peace, adding that it takes only two seconds to destroy it, but the country won’t do it.

FM Qureshi is currently in New York in connection with 73rd session of the UN General Assembly. He is scheduled to address the forum on Saturday (September 29).
