Tehran blames the attack on a separatist group, allegedly supported by countries in the region and the United States. Washington rejects the accusation.
Through a statement, the Revolutionary Guard accused the attack on “the cruel mercenaries of global arrogance (USA) and the region,” especially, the “Western, Zionist and Arab triangle.” They also denounced that the objective of all this is to create “insecurity” in Iran and to achieve that goal “they are willing to attack women, children and innocent people”.
For his part, the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Mohamad Hosein Baqerí, promised that Iran will persecute “in any part of the world” the perpetrators of the attack. After accusing “some regional countries” of supporting these radical groups, the general warned that the Iranian Army reserves “the right to give an overwhelming response at any time and place.”
“Look in the mirror”
The Iranian authorities have blamed the Arab separatist movement Al Ahvazieh for the responsibility of the attack, dismissing the claim of the jihadist group Islamic State (IS). The president, Hassan Rohani, said that for his government is “completely clear” the identity of the perpetrators of the attack on Saturday and its sponsors, alluding to the separatists, who also claimed responsibility for the attack.
Meanwhile, the United States ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, rejected the accusations launched by Iran. “He has the Iranian people protesting, every handful of money that goes into Iran goes to his Army, he has oppressed his people for a long time and he needs to look at his own base to find out where that comes from,” Haley said in an interview to CNN “You can blame us for everything you want, but what you have to do is look in the mirror,” he added.
