Shehzad Roy was all praises for Malala, extols her learning skills – ‘Chess Master’ in making?

Nobel Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai was recently spotted playing a game of chess with singer and social activist Shehzad Roy.

Singer and activist Shehzad Roy and Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai’s light moment playing chess on Saturday has racked up ample attention online, a local publication reported.

The 41-year-old social worker had turned to Twitter to unveil his meeting with the feminist icon where he could be seen giving the young activist a lesson on how play chess.

Roy was quick to praise his new ‘student’. The singer took to Twitter to praise Malala’s learning skills. “Here I am trying to teach Malala how to play chess. Must say that she is a quick learner,” Roy wrote.

In his tweet, the popular singer also publicized the need of expanding school curriculums to include extra-curricular activities like chess: “Chess is a mind sport and it should be a part of our school curriculum.”

“Most of the girls can outshine men in national tournaments,” Mirza said with pride. “These girls have won the top five positions so many times, I’ve lost count.”

Chess is also a compulsory subject for girls in grades 4 to 8 in the school, which is in Karachi’s old city Garden area.

Chess can help to produce “strategic thinkers and problem solvers who will tackle complex issues affecting Pakistan or even the world,” said Roy, who has been honoured by the government for his humanitarian work.

The young Pakistani education activist has also stressed the importance of collective responsibility to promote education of young girls on different forums across the globe.

Earlier this year, a school built with Malala’s Nobel Prize money became operative in her home district of Shangla in Swat region.
