ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday stressed the need for making the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) more active and potent to fight the menace of corruption.
He was presiding over a high-level meeting in Islamabad to review the issues concerning the Bureau and proposed new accountability law.
Finance Minister Asad Umar, Minister for Law and Justice Farogh Naseem, and PM’s special assistants on political affairs Naeemul Malik and adviser on Establishment Shehzad Arbab were in attendance in the meeting.
The prime minister emphasized that NAB’s actions should not create an impression of vengeance against anyone.
Impartial and strict accountability is indispensable for reining in corrupt mafias; he asserted and added no pressure would be accepted over the issue.
Farogh Naseem briefed the premier about the progress on new accountability law. He said a draft NAB law would be finalised after taking all major political parties in the loop.
A taskforce has been set up to reform the NAB Law in order to make it more focused and effective with essential checks and balances to avoid unnecessary harassment.
