Anti-encroachment drive begins in Karachi’s Dhoraji, Mohammad Ali Society

KARACHI: After a crackdown on illegal constructions in Sadar area, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) anti-encroachment operation has now moved to Dhoraji and Mohammad Ali Society.

According to details, the authorities started razing encroachments and unlawful constructions to the ground in the residential areas of Mohammad Ali Society and Dhoraji.

The pillars of a foreign restaurant chain located in the area and an illegally constructed marriage hall were also demolished during the drive.

Earlier this month, nearly 1,000 shops were razed in the areas around Tibet Centre, Akbar Road and Zaibunnisa Street of Saddar and adjoining areas. Now, a clean-up operation, to remove over 100,000 tonnes of rubble from the site, is ongoing in the locality.

Two days back, Provincial Minister of local bodies Saeed Ghani notified that a committee has been formed to recompense the losses of those who were rightful affeetees of the anti-encroachment drive.

The deserving individuals who suffered losses to their properties during the operating against encroachments will be given compensations as per the recommendations of the constituted committee, he said.

The Supreme Court on October 27 had directed Mayor Karachi, Wasim Akhtar to remove all encroachments from the city’s amenity plots and pavements with the help of law enforcement agencies, and granted a 15-day deadline to city authorities for compliance of its orders.
