Bilateral dialogue not linked to Kartarpur, says New Delhi

New Delhi on Wednesday asserted that the Kartarpur corridor initiative by Islamabad will not lead to the resumption of bilateral dialogue between the two countries as it again dismissed efforts by Pakistan to bring peace to South Asia.

“The moment Pakistan stops terrorist activities in India, the dialogue can start but the dialogue is not connected with only the Kartarpur corridor,” said India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj hours before Prime Minister Imran Khan is scheduled to perform the groundbreaking ceremony of the Katarpur corridor.

The initiative is aimed to link Indian Gurdaspur’s Dera Baba Nanak to Katarpur Sahib directly rather than the Wagah border crossingto make travel easy for the Sikh community.\

The initiative for opening the corridor was taken by Pakistan which was later endorsed by the Indian side.

The initiative has widely been lauded both in Pakistan and India as a step towards building bridges between the two countries.
