Government soars petroleum prices by Rs.5 with effect from Thursday 12:00 AM

ISLAMABAD: The government has increased the prices of petroleum products, with petrol going up by Rs5 per litre.

The price of diesel and light diesel have been soared by Rs 6.37 and Rs 6.48 per litre respectively.

The new price of petrol is Rs 97.83 per litre, diesel Rs 112.94 and kerosene oil Rs 86.50 per litre.

The new price for light diesel is Rs 82.84 per litre.

The finance ministry has given approval for the increase in prices and it will take effect from 12 am on Thursday.

A day ago, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had sent a summary to the Ministry of Petroleum recommending an increase of Rs 9 per litre in petrol prices.

According to sources, the body had suggested an elevation of Rs 13 per litre in diesel prices and Rs 6.47 in kerosene oil.

The government on August 30 had reduced petroleum prices by as much as Rs6 for the month of September, according to a notification.

The price of petrol was slashed by Rs 2.41 bringing it as low as Rs 92.83 per litre. High speed diesel price slipped by Rs 6.37 at Rs 106.57 per litre.
