ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has summoned a meeting, in the wake of Superintendent of Police (SP) Tahir Khan Dawar’s killing, to look into the ‘distasteful’ behavior of Afghanistan authorities on the matter of handing over the body of slain officer to Pakistan.
The meeting to be chaired by the prime minister, is convened on Friday (today).
Pakistan expressed serious concerns over the Afghanistan’s way of tackling of the matter of handing over the mortal remains of the martyred officer.
Despite, persistent requests from the ambassador of Pakistan to Afghanistan for immediately sending the mortal remains of the murdered police officer, the Afghan officials, after considerable delay, on Thursday (yesterday) handed over the body of slain SP Tahir Dawar to a jirga comprising of tribal chieftains and MNA Mohsin Dawar at Torkham border point in Khyber district.
Earlier, the Afghan officials refused to hand over the mortal remains of the cop to a Pakistani delegation led by Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi who arrived at the Torkham Gate to receive the body of the police officer.
Shocking tragedy
Tahir Khan Dawar, who was kidnapped from Islamabad’s G-10/4 area on Oct 26, was murdered in Afghanistan and his tortured body was found in Dur Baba district of Nangarhar province in Afghanistan on November 14.
Prime Minister Imran Khan ordered an immediate inquiry into the ‘shocking tragedy’ of the killing of Tahir Khan Dawar and directed Khyber Pakhtunkhawa government to coordinate with Islamabad police in carrying out a speedy probe.
On the other hand, Maj. Gen. Asif Ghafoor, Director General of the military’s media wing in a statement on official Twitter handle wrote, “Brutal murder of SP Tahir in Afg[hanistan] is highly condemnable. We have lost a brave police officer. His abduction, move to Afg, murder and follow up behavior of Afg authorities raise questions which indicate involvement or resources more than a terrorist organisation in Afg[hanistan].”
He further wrote: “While investigations by Pakistani authorities are in process, we reiterate that Afgan security forces to cooperate in border fencing and bilateral border security coordination to deny use of Afghan territory against Pakistan.”
