ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday congratulated the Minister of Power Omar Ayub Khan, for an outstanding performance, ARY News reported.

Premier Khan, in his tweet said, “I want to congratulate the minister of power & his ministry for reducing line losses and boosting recoveries of the sector.

“One of the reasons for expensive electricity and load shedding is power theft”, the PM continued.

As per details, shared by the prime minister, line losses of the power sector reduced by 1.5 percent in month of October, yielding a saving of Rs 2billion.

Rs 11billion were collected from the defaulters, during the month of October, this year.

The federal government on Friday (November 30), had decided to expedite installation of electricity meters in the areas where electricity is being used through direct connections (Kunda system).

The decision was taken during a high level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad.

Expressing concerns over the quantum of power theft, the prime minister had said it was unacceptable that those who regularly pay their dues have to face inconvenience of load shedding because of theft by some elements.

He had directed Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and power minister to hold a press conference to apprise the public of the issue and garner support for the government’s crackdown against power theft.

The Secretary Power Division informed that the Power Division in coordination with the provincial task forces is actively carrying forward the campaign against power theft in all the provinces.
