KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Chief Operating Officer Air Marshal Arshad Malik on Wednesday directed to stop playing soft music during flights.
The music will be replaced by Qaseeda Burda Shareef (an ode of praise for the Prophet Muhammad PBUH).
According to CNN, earlier this month, the national airline began a crackdown against “excessive weight” of some cabin crew. The crew of around 1800 people was ordered to trim down or face consequences
“Excess weight limits would be cut back by five pounds a month,” said PIA flight services general manager Aamir Bashir. “Flight attendants who are over 30 pounds are still eligible for flight duty.”
The national carrier also issued its crew a weight chart for different heights and body types.
“Weight check of all the cabin crew will be carried out at their base stations respectively and comprehensive data will be maintained for perusal of management,” said the issues memo.
Crew members who are already on the weight check list are directed to report monthly to a grooming cell.
“5 % of the crew would need to lose weight by July 1 to avoid being grounded,” said PIA spokesperson Mashhood Tajwar.
He described the crackdown as a regular routine matter and said the memo was issued to ensure that the flight attendants were “slim, smart and fit.”
