ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan directed authorities on Tuesday to end restriction on the entrance of servants/maids into elite clubs of the federal capital.
During a meeting on human rights at the PM Office, the premier instructed to remove all discriminatory signboards from clubs – Islamabad Club, Gymkhana etc – and other public places which bars the entry of maids, aayas or domestic servants.
In order to promote the move, Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi on Wednesday in his Twitter post, shared a picture of a sign barring the entry of maids and ayas beyond a particular point.

The state minister wrote, “Symbols of elitism and colonial mindset will be removed.” Referring to PM Khan’s order to lift the ban on entry of maids/servants in elite clubs, he continued, “we should have been thankful to them [the maids] for carrying our weights.”
He further urged to “abolish boundaries made in name of wealth, colour etc.”
The lifting of ban will start from the Islamabad club, leading to other such places, as suggested by the Tweet of Afridi.
The prime minister had also directed yesterday to eliminate bonded labour from Pakistan and said steps must be taken to educate children of poor families.
