KARACHI: The world including Pakistan witnessed a spectacular view of ‘Super Blue Blood Moon’ on Tuesday.
According to director met department, Abdul Rasheed, this is year’s second super moon on Feb 19. The first super blue blood moon was witnessed on January 21.
He said the moon gazing could be done throughout the night. He explained that on this particular day, the moon brightens 30% higher than its usual shine.
The unusually big and bright moon appeared at its most impressive just as night fell over Asia, but astronomy enthusiasts will be able to see Earth’s satellite loom large anywhere in the world shortly after sunset, weather permitting.
The phenomenon happens when the moon is full at the same time as, or very near, perigee — its closest point to Earth on an elliptical, monthly orbit.
The experts had said the Feb 19 supermoon will be a bit closer and one in March will be the farthest.
During totality, the moon will look red because of sunlight scattering off Earth’s atmosphere. That’s why an eclipsed moon is sometimes known as a blood moon. In January, the full moon is also sometimes known as the wolf moon or great spirit moon.
