KARACHI: Sindh Information Advisor Barrister Murtaza Wahab said on Monday heatwave relief camps are being set up all over the city to help people ward off the harsh weather that is likely to grip the port city from May 1.

Speaking to the media here, he said cold water will provided at 185 spots while ambulances and other facilities will be available at 118 spots across the city to help Karachiites defeat the scorching heat.

Blasting the Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P), Murtaza Wahab said the youth of Karachi rejected the party’s politics of division. He advised the MQM-P to shun this kind of politics and work for resolution of issues facing the denizens.

He slammed Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar for making hue and cry over lack of funds saying he has failed to serve the masses despite the fact that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation is provided a Rs7 billion grant by the provincial government every year to take care of the city.

The advisor said the MQM-P local government’s performance is evident to everyone. He added the local government took a U-turn when it razed the shops which it had previously provided to the people.

Taking a swipe at the mayor over his lack of powers rant, he said the mayor has had the powers to pull down shops but when it comes to provision of jobs he complains of lack of powers.

It is the Sindh government that has been carrying out uplift work in the city, he said, asking the mayor what he has done in the past two and a half years.
