Interpol arrests Zardari aide Owais Muzaffar Tappi in Dubai

KARACHI: Former provincial minister and foster brother of Asif Ali Zardari, Owais Muzaffar Tappi has been arrested in Dubai, citing sources, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

According to sources, the Interpol arrested Owais Muzaffar Tappi last night in Dubai under the charges of money laundering and land grabbing.

The National Accountability Bureau had approved the launching of inquiries in four different cases against Owais Muzaffar alias Tappi, who was the Sindh local bodies’ minister.

Tappi, has been charged of billions of rupees money laundering and illegal sale of thousands of acres of the state land, according to the sources.

The sources said that former Sindh minister will be transferred to Pakistan soon.

DIG South Javed Odho on the court’s summon informed the Supreme Court that Owais Muzaffar Tappi has been out of country for three years.

The bench then ordered the police to produce the accused in the court and return the grabbed plots from illegal occupation.

The National Accountability Bureau on February 20 this year arrested the Sindh Assembly Speaker and co-accused Agha Siraj in the illegal assets case.

Former chief justice Saqib Nisar last year heard a petition of a citizen of Karachi about land grabbing charges against Owais Muzaffar Tappi and Agha Siraj Durrani.

Petitioner Dr. Iqbal informed the court widows came to him and crying about grabbing of their properties. He said the two accused leaders have illegally grabbed a housing scheme of Malir district.
