Ramzan Sugar Mills case: NAB summons Hamza Shehbaz today

According to media sources, Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz will appear before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) today (Monday).

Hamza is being probed in cases pertaining to assets beyond known sources of income, Saaf Pani case and Ramzan Sugar Mills case.

A NAB team will question him about allegations with regard to causing a Rs213 million loss to the national kitty through construction of a 10-kilometre-long drain in Chiniot primarily to benefit his sugar mill.

The Lahore High Court on Monday restrained NAB from arresting Hamza. NAB had carried out two successive raids on April 5 and 6 at Shehbaz’s Model Town residence to arrest Hamza.

The NAB has filed a reference accusing former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif, his

Hamza Shahbaz and others for causing losses to the national exchequer and misusing authority.
NAB officials say Shahbaz Sharif, being chief minister of Punjab, misused his authority by issuing directives for the construction of a 10-kilometre-long drain in Chiniot primarily to benefit the sugar mills owned by his sons.
