A Supreme Court bench headed by the chief justice of Pakistan on Monday said that no department in the country was more corrupt than Pakistan Railways.
The top court also summoned federal Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, railways secretary and chief operating officer of Pakistan Railways to appear before the court on Tuesday (today) in a case relating to the losses incurred by the institution.
During the hearing, the chief justice expressed exasperation over the railways’ performance, saying that the entire department is politicized and nothing is working appropriately.
The CJ also panned Sheikh Rashid without naming him, observing that a person should first travel by train before taking charge of the ministry.
“The stations and railway tracks are not in order. Every passenger travelling by train is in danger and not feeling secure. The freight trains are also not operating. The world is using bullet trains but we are still operating obsolete railways,” he remarked.
