ISLAMABAD: According to Shehzad Akbar, Special Assistant to the PM on Accountability, Prime Minister Imran Khan has given nod to take action against those involved in the recent sugar crisis.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad on Sunday flanked by information minister Shibli Faraz, Akbar said the prime minister supported the FIA-led inquiry report’s recommendations after a meeting held earlier that day at his residence in Banigala, Radio Pakistan said.
“The prime minister is determined that everyone will be held accountable, irrespective of political affiliation and influence,” he said adding that irregularities in sugar industry increased when political families became involved in this business.
PTI senior leader Jahangir Tareen, PML-Q’s Moonis Elahi, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif’s son Salman Shehbaz, Federal Minister Khusro Bakhtiar’s relative Omar Shehryar and the Omni Group are among the stakeholders of the mills involved in wrongdoing.
The recommendations, the PM ‘s accounting assistant said, include punishment and recovery,overhauling of the regulatory framework, and rationalization of sugar prices based on actual production costs.
