Nearly 25,000 new coronavirus infections have been reported in India, and their transmission rate is increasing for the first time since March, AP reports.
India’s infection numbers have skyrocketed since restrictions on lock-downs have eased. Simultaneously, testing has ramped up to over 200,000 samples a day, compared to just a few hundred in March. Data by the Chennai Institute of Mathematical Sciences reveals that India’s rate of reproduction of viruses was ticked to 1.19 in the first week of July after steadily declining from peak transmission of 1.
Health experts believe the true extent of the transmission of the virus in India is uncertain and, considering its population of nearly 1.4 billion people, further research must be done.
