Aleem Dar sets a new mark of officiating most ODIs

For his 210th appearance as an umpire for a one-day international (ODI) cricket match, Pakistan’s Aleem Dar was given a special memento when he turned up for the second ODI between the green shirts and Zimbabwe.

Dar’s 210th appearance set him the record of leading the world’s highest number of ODI matches. He surpassed the 209-match feat owned by South African Rudi Koertzen with a new feather in his cap.

Before yesterday’s match, the second ODI between Pakistan and Zimbabwe, began, after a brief ceremony at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, he was seen excitedly clutching his souvenir.

Dar set the record of supervising the most Test matches last year when he stood in his 129th Test, played in December between Australia and New Zealand.

Born in Jhang on June 6, 1968, Aleem Dar is a member of the ICC Umpires’ Elite Team. Prior to becoming an umpire, he had played first-class cricket.

Dar, after being nominated twice in 2005 and 2006, also won the David Shepherd Trophy as the best umpire of the year for three years in a row from 2009 and 2011.
