Prime Minister Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has summoned a meeting to discuss the issue of formation of the standing committees, according to party sources.

The prime minister will chair a meeting on Monday to discuss the issue of the formation of the parliamentary committees, which have been in pending over the row with the opposition about the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

The opposition had refused to be part of the committees and was demanding that the chair of the PAC should be given to the Leader of the Opposition, as per a tradition set during the tenures of the previous two political governments.

The ruling Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided not to linger the matter further, as no legislation has been passed in the past 100 days of the government, due to absence of the standing committees.

According to sources, the meeting will set a strategy to deal with the opposition and will also consider formation of the standing committees without participation of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

The meeting will also be informed about the talks with the opposition parties, party sources said.

The meeting is expected to take a decision with regard to the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.
