LAHORE: “ The promise of adding 10 new trains in Pakistan Railways’ fleet within first 100 days of government was fulfilled”, said Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Saturday.

Lightening the 100 days performance of PR while holding a press conference in Lahore today, the Railways minister said, now the focus will be on the repair of deteriorated tracks and out of order bogies, as promise to run 10 new trains is served.

“Pakistan railway has earned Rs 2billion, during the period of last four months” Sheikh Rashid said, adding ‘unnecessary’ expenses of the department have been curtailed.

“The recent reforms in the department have helped in improving standards of the PR and putting it back on the right track”, the minister continued.

Helping passengers to travel without ticket in Pakistan Railway, will lead immediate termination of the employees, warned Sheikh Rashid.

In order to boost tourism activities, the minister informed the media that, his department is running three tourist trains.

Back in month of November, Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed had reiterated that his ministry would fulfill the 100-day agenda ahead of the deadline.

Addressing a press conference, the minister had said that PR will launch a new tracking system in the locomotives to monitor the usage of fuel.

He had said they are going to introduce pre-paid electricity meters to be installed at residences of 77,000 employees of the railways to reduce the department’s spending.
