On Monday, the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) warned that Pakistan could be one of the countries that would be badly affected by the pandemic.
UNCTAD said that Pakistan needed to take a raft of measures to curb the pandemic before it spirals out of control.
The agency added that the developing countries would need a $2.5 trillion support package this year to face the financial crisis triggered by the virus.
As per the report titled ‘The Covid-19 Shock to Developing Countries’, the mandatory measures included a $1 trillion liquidity injection and a $1 trillion debt relief package, another $500 million for emergency health services and related programs in addition to capital controls.
“Sub-Saharan African countries will be among the hardest hit alongside others, including Pakistan and Argentina,” said Richard Kozul-Wright, director of globalization and development strategies at UNCTAD, who supervised the report.
