In yet another address to the nation on Monday, Prime Minister Imran Khan ruled out a blanket lockdown in the country, urging people to fight the coronavirus with “wisdom”.
He said that a cell had been established at the Prime Minister Office to determine upward or downward trend of the lethal virus in a week following which the government would formulate its next course of action.
“We have established a cell at the PM Office to ascertain decreasing or increasing trend of the viral disease in one week and a future line of action will be made after monitoring the situation,” the prime minister said.
The premier warned the hoarders to stop their malpractices, otherwise the state would take stern action against the unscrupulous elements who would be responsible for starvation in the country.
PM Imran said there was adequate quantity of food items in the country, including agriculture products like wheat, rice, pulses and grains. He also said that the industries who would not lay off their workers would be provided soft loans by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
The premier also formally announced the creation of a youth volunteers force called Corona Relief Tigers (CRT) to provide food items at the doorsteps of the underprivileged and daily wagers in the event their area was sealed due to the spread of the pandemic.
He also announced the opening of Corona Relief Fund (CRF) in which donors and Pakistanis living abroad can deposit money from Wednesday.
The prime minister said Pakistan did not adequate resources liked China and the US who had allocated billions of dollars to fight the pandemic of the coronavirus, adding that a country like Pakistan where more than 25pc of people live below poverty line could not afford to go under complete lockdown.
He said it was incumbent upon the people themselves to exercise caution and work with wisdom to battle the outbreak.
