KARACHI: The Edhi Foundation is reopening all of its morgues and burial facilities nationwide, chairman Faisal Edhi reported Monday.
He said in a video statement that the bodies of those affected by the novel coronavirus could also be brought to the welfare organization before their burial.
On Friday, Edhi declared the closure of all the morgues and burial centers of the foundation, saying that people brought the bodies of COVID-19 patients to the funeral bath and shrouding, putting staff and other visitors at risk of infection.
With the reopening, however, he said that Dr. Azizullah, a professor of infectious diseases at Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, provided Edhi volunteers with guidance and preparation, enabling them to treat coronavirus patients’ bodies. So, the victim of the disease could be brought to the Edhi Foundation.
