CM Sindh advises people to maintain social distance until April 14

As 51 new cases of coronavirus and another death have been reported, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah urged the masses on Sunday to cooperate with the government during the current lockdown until at least April 14, fearing that if the coronavirus spreads to katchi abadis (slum areas), the province’s health care system would be overrun.

He said in a video message that many people in slum neighbourhoods live in close proximity, often only in a single room, and in such a situation, it will be difficult to control the disease.

“We haven’t seen many cases from katchi abadis so far but if they start flooding in, we would have a big problem because our healthcare system would not be able to handle that situation,” said the CM, adding that the lockdown had been enforced to avoid such a scenario.

He urged people to remain socially isolated until at least April 14, saying that the provincial government should then evaluate the situation. “It is my humble request to you all to stay at home and support the efforts of the government in these tumultuous times.”

“Those with no or mild symptoms, we are isolating them in their homes if they have a proper place available. If it is not, then we are keeping them in government-run isolation centres,” he explained.

CM Shah went on to state that a rapid response team was formed in every district of the province to deal with the pandemic, responsible for tracking patients and conducting tests.

He also appealed to the public to stay at home, stating that the 123 people who survived from the infectious disease did not receive any medication or vaccine as such, but were isolated and recovered on their own.
