Germany and other areas of Europe have taken cautious steps to relax lock-down measures because more countries have seen coronavirus death rates decline, but authorities have cautioned that the fight against the pandemic is far from over.
The World Health Organization has defended its handling of the outbreak against scathing criticism from Washington and others, with its head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus maintaining that the UN body had warned of the virus “from day one”
The hope is tempered by concerns of new outbreaks of infections, warnings that for several months life won’t be back to normal and serious concern about the devastating impact the virus has on the global economy.
