PTI to counter opposition’s “anti-state narrative” with full force

The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has decided to confront the “anti-state narrative” of the opposition with full force in every forum and expose the cases of corruption faced by members of the opposition.

Sources told that while chairing a meeting of PTI spokespersons representing the party on TV talk shows, Prime Minister Imran Khan categorically claimed on Monday that his government would not bow to the pressure exerted by the opposition through its anti-government campaign and would not make any concessions to the representatives of the opposition facing charges of corruption.

The sources said that the participants also addressed and labeled “irresponsible” the recent controversial statement made by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former National Assembly speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq at the meeting.

The participants were of the opinion that the leaders of the PML-N were now changing their position as they began to say that the former speaker had simply spoken of Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and not about any state institution. The sources said some of the participants thought that some action against the PML-N leader should be supported by the government.

The members were of the opinion that some “criminals” were trying to put pressure on the government by building an “anti-state narrative” which could not be stood.

The meeting also addressed proposals and statements coming from different political and media circles on the need for political dialogue and engagement, according to the sources. However, the prime minister was quoted as saying that there was no harm to political engagement, but this could not take place at the cost of the country and the state.

Mr Khan promised to strengthen the state institutions further and to foil the attack on them by the opposition.

In response to the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s rallies in various parts of the country, the PTI has also planned several activities. In this regard, it is expected that the Prime Minister will address a rally in Hafizabad on 7 November, for which preparations have already begun.
